The 2024 season got off to an unforgettable start for the UMass Minuteman Marching Band.
The UMMB was invited to join alternative rock band Guster on stage at the renowned Newport Folk Festival, performing alongside the group during its closing song, “Fa Fa.”
For band members, the appearance offered a unique opportunity to share the stage with one of New England’s most beloved bands at one of the nation’s most iconic music festivals. The collaboration brought together the energy of the Minuteman Marching Band and the distinctive sound of Guster before a packed Newport audience.
The Newport Folk Festival has long been known for its surprise performances and memorable collaborations, making the invitation an especially exciting honor for the UMMB.
The performance also served as a fitting kickoff to the 2024 marching season, giving members an opportunity to represent UMass on a national stage before the first football game of the year.
