UMass Drumline Surprises Super Fan

  • by

For Luke Barry of Mansfield, Massachusetts, marching bands are more than entertainment—they’re a passion.

Luke, who is autistic, loves watching marching bands and dreams of one day joining the UMass Minuteman Marching Band. His enthusiasm is so well known that his family recently reached out hoping to secure a small care package from one of his favorite groups.

What happened next was far more than they expected.

Instead of simply sending memorabilia, organizers connected with the UMass Minuteman Marching Band and arranged a special surprise visit from members of the UMass Drumline.

The result was an unforgettable performance delivered just for Luke.

As reported by WCVB Channel 5 Boston, the drumline brought the excitement, energy, and spirit of the Minuteman Band directly to Mansfield, performing for one of their biggest fans. The highlight of the day came when Luke was invited to join in and play along with the drummers.

For a young man who hopes to one day wear the maroon and white himself, it was a chance to experience the Minuteman Band up close.

The visit served as a powerful reminder of the impact music can have beyond the rehearsal field and football stadium. For the members of the UMass Drumline, it was an opportunity to inspire a future band member. For Luke, it was a day he will never forget.

We look forward to the day Luke joins the long line of students who have found a home in the Minuteman Marching Band.

After all, Band is for Everyone.
