UMass Band performs pregame at Penn State's Beaver Stadium

The Minuteman Band enjoyed a very enthusiastic band audience at Penn State’s Beaver Stadium at Saturday’s football game. Here’s a great review of that atmosphere from LehighValleyLive.com.

Penn State-UMass much more evenly matched in marching
band play than football competition

Based on the 48-7 score on Saturday, UMass wasn’t much of a match for Penn State on the football field.

However, the real battle might have been in the bleachers of Beaver Stadium.

UMass brought along a large marching band that attempted to make the best out of a blowout on the field.

The Minutemen didn’t produce many highlights on the field on Saturday, but the few they did manage were met by enthusiasm from their large contingent of band members.

At halftime, the band put together a great performance of Earth, Wind & Fire songs that featured some nifty dance moves from band members. It must be hard enough to march around as you play an instrument let alone break out in dance. Their halftime show earned a loud ovation from the Penn State faithful.

The Minutemen Band’s upbeat, unique performance just might have had the edge over the Penn State Blue Band, which stuck to a more traditional show during halftime.

Maybe things would have been more interesting on Saturday if it was the marching bands that squared off and not the football squads.
