As with many of the brightest stars, it is often not until their light is extinguished that we fully realize the impact they have had upon our lives, and so it was with George.
George Parks’ legacy is very much alive and will continue to ripple out into the world for years to come. It is our sincere hope that this commemorative calendar connects you to some of your own cherished memories. With proceeds from the sale of this calendar, we will continue to build upon George’s legacy by establishing the George N. Parks Drum Major Scholarship. This scholarship will be awarded to a Drum Major at the University of Massachusetts who displays outstanding leadership characteristics and a commitment to excellence both on and off the field.
George Parks’ leadership inspired thousands of us in many different ways throughout his life. Whether through the Drum Major Academy, the Minuteman Marching Band, Reading Buccaneers, Bands of America, and/or perhaps through one of his many clinics or performances; he always left us wanting more. His passion, vision, and tireless devotion to his craft was contagious as well as a source of great inspiration.
“I’m very excited to be part of this fantastic project with fellow alum Linda Hannum ’82. I have to admit that it is very exciting to see the George N. Parks calendar project come to fruition and to be able to honor George’s memory in this way,” says band alum and former drum major Jeff Poulton ’87.
“I know George would be proud of the effort and benefit that will be generated for the future Marching Band Drum Majors whom he never knew.”
