UMass Band spells "SARV"
The UMMB spells “SARV” at Homecoming in honor of the retirement of alumna Heidi Sarver,

The UMMB is excited to welcome home one of its own.

Professor Heidi Sarver—UMass alumna, former Drum Major, member of the UMMB Hall of Fame, and recently retired Director of Athletic Bands at the University of Delaware—will return to the UMMB design team.

Sarver will write the drill for the percussion feature, bringing her creativity and decades of experience back to the program that helped launch her remarkable career.

A legendary figure in the collegiate marching band world, Sarver spent 29 years at the University of Delaware, where she built one of the nation’s most respected athletic band programs. Her influence has extended far beyond Newark through her work as a drill designer, clinician, educator, and mentor to countless students and band directors.

For UMMB alumni, however, Sarver’s connection to the program runs much deeper. Before becoming one of the most recognized names in the marching arts, she marched on the fields of Amherst as a student, served as Drum Major, and later earned induction into the UMMB Hall of Fame.

We are thrilled to welcome Professor Sarver back to the design team and look forward to seeing her work come to life on the field this fall.
