The UMMB family is proud to congratulate alumnus Alex Beltran on his appointment as Associate Director of the University of Cincinnati Bearcat Bands.
Beltran’s connection to the Minuteman Marching Band spans his entire collegiate career and beyond. A UMass graduate who earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Amherst, he served as tenor drum section leader and marched with the UMMB during its memorable appearance in the 2013 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Following graduation, Beltran continued his involvement with the program as a graduate assistant with the UMass Drumline. After completing his master’s degree, he remained on staff as an instructor, helping develop future generations of drummers while contributing extensively to the section’s musical arrangements and educational programming.
His impact was also felt during the UMMB’s preparations for its historic 2018 Tournament of Roses appearance, where he played a key role in supporting and advancing the drumline’s continued excellence.
Now, Beltran brings that experience to one of the nation’s premier collegiate band programs. As Associate Director of Bearcat Bands, he will help lead the musical, educational, and performance traditions that define the University of Cincinnati’s renowned band program.
Congratulations, Alex, on this well-deserved achievement. We are proud to see another member of the UMMB family making an impact on the national stage. In a fitting continuation of the UMass legacy at Cincinnati, Alex assumes the role previously held by fellow Minuteman Band alumnus Nick Angelis, who worked with the Bearcat Bands from 2005 to 2024.
