Congratulations to former UMMB teaching assistant and drill designer Colby Vasquez on his appointment as Assistant Director of Bands at North Carolina State University.
A familiar name to many UMMB alumni, Vasquez earned his master’s degree from UMass Amherst in 2016, where he served as a graduate teaching assistant and contributed as a drill designer for the Minuteman Marching Band.
Since leaving Amherst, Vasquez has built an impressive career in music education and collegiate bands. He has taught in California and is currently completing his Doctor of Musical Arts in Wind Conducting at the University of Florida.
His new role at NC State marks another exciting step in a career dedicated to musical excellence, student development, and the collegiate band experience. As Assistant Director of Bands, he will help lead one of the nation’s most respected university band programs while continuing to shape the next generation of musicians and performers.
We congratulate Colby on this well-deserved achievement and wish him continued success as he begins this new chapter at NC State.
