Building Power & Class

Building Power & Class is the 1994 documentary about the rise of the Minuteman Marching Band program. It follows the UMMB through the 1993 season as it prepares for its first-ever exhibition at the Bands of America Grand National Championships.

Tony Mussari, director of the 1994 film  asked the question, “What is the Power and Class of New England?” Quoting George Parks from the film, he answered, “It’s about standing for something that counts. It’s about building a group that is first and foremost, musical. It’s about teaching a group of men and women leadership.” For Mussari, George Parks’ dream for the Minuteman Band demonstrated “a lesson that’s so precious and so valuable that it made this group extraordinary.”

The late Tony Mussari was a communications professor at King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Mussari-Loftus Associates also produced Windsor Park Stories, a local TV program featuring messages of hope, inspiration and service.

The film was distributed nationally to high schools and aired on public television stations in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.
