From the Springfield Republican
“I have seen students become more responsible. I have seen students learn how to persevere when they are challenged and frustrated. I have seen students encourage one another, laugh at their mistakes, trust in one another and learn that each and every one of them are an important part of what makes our program run,” said Rachel Rivard, band director at Chestnut Middle School, Talented and Gifted in Springfield. “These side effects are what make our students successful once they leave the Springfield Public School System — not necessarily the music itself.”
Congratulations, Rachel. An alumna friend in my class of 1970, now Ph.D., Liz Knowles, started out in Springfield, I believe. You’re in good company.
