The Big Band Bash

You spoke. We listened!

A few weeks ago, band alumna Becky (Baldwin) Sencabaugh kicked-off a fun Facebook thread launching the idea for a big band banquet for alumni & friends! So… we’re throwing one!

The weekend of April 1 & 2 will feature some awesome celebrations of YOUR UMass Minuteman Marching Band.

So what’s in store?

On Saturday, April 1st, we are kicking off the FIRST ANNUAL Big Band Bash. It’ll feature a UMMB-banquet-style format complete with cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing. There will also be a silent auction of amazing prizes to raise money for the band, and it’s open to all!

Former Drum Majors Linda Hannum ’83 and Will Blazeski ’16 will be our emcees!

Stay the night, book at room at Hotel UMass!

But why in April?

YOUR Minuteman Concert Band performs its spring recital on Sunday, April 2nd in the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall. And it’s going to be a very special event!

A couple years ago, the brothers and sisters of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma decided to honor our beloved former band director George Parks with a musical composition. The honor of this commission went to none other than UMass jazz master Jeff Holmes, who worked closely with KKΨ/TBΣ, Thom Hannum, Jeanne Parks, and Tim Anderson to capture the musical essence of Mr. Parks. This piece will be premiered by the Concert Band on this day, conducted by Thom Hannum, and later will be published as concert band literature! You won’t want to miss it!

Following the concert, the band will host a reception at the Old Chapel.
