The UMass Concert Band features the world-premiere of “G.P.,” written in memory of former Minuteman Marching Band director George Parks.

Led by conductor Timothy T. Anderson, the Concert Band provides its members with the opportunity to perform a wide range of repertoire from marches to Broadway standards to Mozart. Although the group draws many of its members from the UMass Minuteman Marching Band, all UMass students are welcome to participate.

“G.P.” was composed by director of jazz studies Jeffrey W. Holmes. Thom Hannum, longtime associate director of the Marching Band, will conduct the work.

Also on the program is perhaps the greatest of all circus marches, Karl King’s “Barnum and Bailey’s Favorite,” presented to mark the closing of the Ringling Brothers/Barnum and Bailey’s Circus. Other works to be presented include “Forgotten Dreams” by Leroy Anderson, “Cajun Folk Songs” by Frank Ticheli, “A Symphonic Prelude” by Alfred Reed, and the Carmen Dragon setting of “America, the Beautiful.”  Besides Anderson and Hannum, conductors for the program will also include graduate students Matthew Sypek and David Morris.
